about

Hi there! My name is Madison, I am 20-something-years-old and live in Australia with my husband Jerome, my baby Mia, my naughty Chihuahua (who does too many wee wees in the house) Peanut and my guinea pig Mr. Sniffles. With the help of my little family and furry creatures, we bring to you Veggieful.com… a cute world filled with vegan recipes, information and an overload of beany cartoon goodness. I promise that no beans were harmed in the making of this website!

I first created the concept of Veggieful when Jerome and I were sitting in our Accounting lecture at Uni. I should have realized at that point that an Accounting degree was not for me… but we still went through with it! I never expected to be sitting here, years later, a wedding photographer and vegan blogger! I was never really into cooking. Actually, I would do anything I could to avoid doing it. I would rather clean up afterwards then have to cook. I became vegan in 2010 after being vegetarian for a few weeks after being confronted with some horrific photos and videos about the animal product industries. I just knew I had to take the train to vegan-ville as the facts and truths were just too upsetting. I jumped on the train (the metaphorical vegan journey train of course), started cooking up a storm, began sharing the recipes with friends and family, bombarding the interweb with cute beany goodness and never looked back! I am so glad that the accounting lecture was more boring than normal that day as I would have never scribbled the word “Veggieful” on my notepad and may have never discovered the world of Veggieful.com.

So what do I do besides create and share amazing life-changing dishes with all of you? Well, Jerome and I work together as wedding photographers for our business Bird and Boy Photography. This means that we have 1 day a week working together (photographing weddings) and the other 6 days at home with our lovely little bundle of cuddly cuteness (Mia). When we are not photographing weddings and cooking tasty food, we are relaxing by the beach or pool, roadtripping, eating out, running, drinking tea, drinking LOTS of coffee, making things, painting things and running around after Mia.

I feel so honoured to be able to share our life with you and I am so glad that there is more and more interest in the vegan lifestyle. Veganism really is such a beneficial way of life and is also so delicious!

All in all, I absolutely adore running veggieful.com  - I love being able to assist others with vegan dishes and chat about cooking and food... Feel free to contact me to chit chat. Enjoy our recipes :)

Hi! I’m Jerome… a twenty-something food photographer and wedding photographer with a passion for graphic design and anything food related! But my biggest passion is for my wife Madison and my bubby Mia who make the best photo subjects!

Madison is the loveliest most kind-hearted person I have met, and I’m a very lucky lad to share my life with her.  I don’t understand how she comes up with these tasty dishes and I have never missed animal products since the day she began cooking these vegan delights. Before I met her, I wasn't aware of the cruelty that is involved in cosmetics, meat and animal derived products just like everyone else. It is literally in almost everything, and it’s not needed!

I am a photography enthusiast. A wedding photographer by day, a food photographer by night... I love all things photography! If you would like to get have a go, my only advice would be that, expensive equipment does not necessarily mean good shots, good shots come from passion and persistence… and boy, am I passionate about food!!!

Food photography equipment: Nikon D810, 50mm 1.8 lens, 24-70mm 2.8 lens, tripod and flash.

Mia is our little vegan bundle of cuteness. She was born on 05/01/2014 at 2:33am after 3 hours of labour (from water-breaking to her birth) and I knew straight away that she would make a difference in this world… I can’t wait to see what her future will bring! She is such a little character. So funny, smart, healthy, active, strong, affectionate, giggly, naughty at times (hehe), chatty and such a big eater, great singer with some really unique dance moves! She loves all types of food and will eat anything that we eat… even a spicy curry! She also lovveeeessssssss any type of greens, especially kale! There is nothing I love more than seeing her cute little face when she wakes up in the morning and knowing that I can cuddle and kiss her as much as I want. I feel so lucky.

I had a completely vegan pregnancy with Mia and continued to be vegan while breastfeeding. I receive so many questions on the subject of vegan pre-conception, pregnancy, breastfeeding and babies. To find out more, see our Vegan Baby page for more info!

  7. Do your guinea pigs carry any diseases or do guinea pigs generally carry any that can be treated with shots or creams to prevent them??do you have to take special care of them like take them to the vet a lot and bathe them a lot? and do they stink?, them personally and their cages &/or the room you guys keep them in????? Hehe sorry the Internet isn't that specific as you guys are :)!! :D

    1. Hi.. No our guinea pigs do not carry diseases. They have had one or two sicknesses such as urinary tract infections and they had to be taken for to the vet and put on antibiotics for that. I bathe them about once every couple of months. No, they do not stick but you need to clean out their bed every day. Obviously because you are keeping them in an enclosed area the bed will smell as they need to go to the toilet. We keep them in a massive open-topped bed in the loungeroom. It looks like a white picket fence house. You need a lot of room for guinea pigs... they cannot be kept in small cages and are also herd animals, so you need at least two guinea pigs. Piggies are quite high maintenance as you need to constantly be cleaning out their cage and making sure they get enough vitamin C. Guinea pigs are like humans in the fact that they cannot produce their own vitamin C and so, they can die from scurvy. So they need constant fruit and veggies. I love them so much but they are a lot of work... my chihuahuas are so much easier! :)

    1. Hello! I don't use any brands in particular. I just purchase bits now and then. When I need something, such as a mascara, I look on the PETA cruelty-free vegan company app before purchasing. If you're in Australia, Alythea Cosmetics is vegan as well as Musq Mineral Makeup :)

  28. Jerome! Why are you studying accounting? Your graphic design and photography is amazing (I'm a creative who took the 'sensible' route into a non-creative career and I've always regretted it, so if you're trying to be sensible, don't be!!!). I love the fact that you both work on this site together. Madison, your recipes are gorgeous. So happy to have found this site, can't wait to keep reading!
P.S who did the green peas on the logo? Awesome!

    1. Hi Laura,
Jerome and I are studying a double degree of marketing and accounting which we have now finished. It has helped us to work from home full-time with Veggieful and our photography business. Jerome did the peas.
      Thanks!

(Which your blog gave huge inspiration for doing). I am currently researching to do a study abroad program in Melbourne next year and would love the opportunity to meet you and Jerome! I am aspiring to open my own vegan coffee shop / cafe someday and it would be great to talk to you both about this and learn all I can about your wholesome lifestyles.
